TGIF Interview… Sheri Lewis Wohl

June 5th, 2009 by Amanda Young

Please welcome Sheri Lewis Wohl, author of Necuratul. Many thanks to Sheri for agreeing to appear on my blog this week.

Q: So, Sheri, please tell us what genre do you write in, and why?
A: Primarily in the paranormal romance/erotic romance genres. I like things to go bump in the night and then throw in a little romance, and it makes me happy. I hope it makes the readers happy too!

Q: How long did you write before you received your first contract for publication?
A: I wrote off and on for about fifteen years before I sold the first book.

Q: So, if you don’t mind sharing, would you tell us about your latest work in progress?
A: Having completed my Masters thesis on the 1872 lesbian vampire story “Carmilla” I thought it was time to write a lesbian vampire book. So, my latest WIP has two love stories running concurrently. One involves a lesbian vampire who happens to be the daughter of Henry VII (reported to have died at birth) and a beautiful African-American chemist who is helping her find a cure for vampirism. The second love story involves a lovely Hispanic medical examiner and a very handsome vampire hunter.

Q: Out of all the stories you’ve written, which is your favorite?
A: For me, it’s NECURATUL, the first in a trilogy I wrote for Loose Id. It sets up the heroine, Catherine “Cat” Lohr and her shape-shifter lover and fellow-hunter, Adam Bell. It was a fun book to write even though it’s fairly dark. I just love Cat – she’s the kind kick-ass, take names kind of woman many of us wish we could be.

Q: Do you need to be in a specific place or atmosphere before the words flow?
A: Not really. For me, I can write pretty much anywhere, anytime which is why you always see me with my laptop. Close friends are shocked on those rare occasions I don’t have it over my shoulders.

Q: If you could offer one tidbit of information for new writers, what would it be?
A: Don’t give up. Writing can be a lonely and discouraging endeavor, however, patience and a willingness to work and improve, will get you were you want to be.

Q: Do you have an evil day job or do you write full time?
A: I do have an evil day job, but I’m one of the fortunate few who really likes the day job. Anyone who’s attended my workshop Evil 101 is aware that I’ve spent the last 18 years in the judiciary. It’s a fascinating agency, full of great and dedicated people. I learn every day and appreciate the opportunity to have spent so much time there.

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?
A: We’re big into collector cars at my house so we spend time at car functions. I also do art quilts when I have time which isn’t often any more.

Q: Name one thing readers would be surprised to learn about you.
A: Besides having a lovely ceramic skull collections, I also enjoy classical music and even, on occasion, opera.

Q: What’s your favorite dirty word?
A: Gotta be fuck! It’s such a short work and yet very descriptive.

Q: What’s your favorite holiday, and why?
A: Halloween. I love the idea of the veil between the living and dead being at its thinnest on All Hallows Eve.

Q: Do you have any tattoos or piercings?
A: No Tattoos and only double piercings in each ear.

Q: If you could be intimate with three people (not necessarily all at one time *g*) without getting in trouble with your significant other, who would they be?
A: Oh…only three? All right then how about–Gerard Butler, Shemar Moore, Mark Harmon

Q: If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things would you want with you?
A: Gerard Butler, Shemar Moore, Mark Harmon

Q: If you won the lottery tomorrow, what would you spend the money on?
A: I’m your basic fiscal conservative, so I’d pay off the house, and then think really, really hard on what to do next.

Q: Which household chore do you abhor and why?
A: Unloading the dishwasher and I have absolutely no idea why but will avoid it every chance I get.

Q: What’s your favorite comfort food?
A: I’m from the Pacific NW so my stable is a nice, hot latte.

Q: Do you have any guilty pleasures you feel comfortable sharing?
A:Hummmm, better not

Q: Do you have a favorite book or movie?
A: Rebecca is my all-time favorite book and Timeline is my favorite movie

Q: In closing, tell us a bit about your latest release (& share a yummy excerpt for those who aren’t yet familiar with your work)
A: My latest book will be out in October. It’s once again a paranormal romance although it is also a bit of a thriller too. A reclusive quilt artist rents an apartment from a former police-officer who has been wounded in the line of duty and now is in the process of turning a hundred-year-old school into apartments.

Adrian Meade is on the run from her rich, powerful, and vengeful ex-husband, so she creates a new identity as Anna Koch to keep herself safe. Tired of running, she has no sooner put down temporary roots in Spokane, Washington, than she finds herself in the midst of an unexpected romance with her landlord, Jason “Bigs” Bigelow, and also confronted with the century-old mystery of a missing boy. Full of dark secrets, she keeps Bigs at arm’s length until their fiery passion becomes too great to deny. Love, lies, and a ghost complicate Adrian’s life even more than it already is. As secrets begin to crack and mysteries begin to unravel, the line between the past and the present fades. Can Bigs keep her safe from an evil that transcends time or will he lose the one woman who has finally healed his heart?

EXCERPT:

Bigs leaned toward her to touch his lips against hers. “I’ve wanted to do that all night.”

“Um,” was all she could say. The safe thing to do would be to say thanks and go home. She didn’t feel inclined to play safe tonight and so instead she brought her hand up and ran her fingers through his thick hair, pulling his face closer to hers. “Then do it,” she told him.

His eyes lit up at her words in a way that had her pulse racing. He kissed her again, this time deep and questioning. The tip of his tongue touched hers in a shot of fire. Maybe it was the wine, or maybe it was simply her overwhelming desire, but she answered him in a silent but undeniable yes. She wanted him with a fervor as primal as the wild animals still roaming much of the prairies outside. Adrian needed him, needed the touch of someone kind, gentle, and exciting all at the same time. She had been isolated for too long. The ice in her veins screamed for a thaw.

You Are 92% Feminist

You are a total feminist. This doesn’t mean you’re a man hater (in fact, you may be a man).

You just think that men and women should be treated equally. It’s a simple idea but somehow complicated for the world to put into action.
