I just found out Platinum Dunes is planning to remake Nightmare on Elm Street. Robert England will not be reprising the role as Freddy Krueger. Can you believe this crap? What happened to making new films? It seems like everything is a remake these days.

It’s wild to go back and watch that movie and see a young, babyfaced Johnny Depp. The thing that made the first Elm Street installment so scary and disturbing wasn’t the gore, but the psychological mind trip that the main character suffered. As the series progressed, however, it seemed the writers were more keen on the gross-out shock factor. I wonder if the updated version will at least re-capture the whole “mind games” experience of the first one?

You know, if I had to guess, I’d say that it will be more T-N-A and special fx, and less suspense. That seems to be the way Hollywood is going these days. The Halloween remake was like that. They killed the original creepiness.
